Cardiovascular diseases remain the leading cause of death in the United States and in many developing countries.
The Heart Disease Prevention Program in the Mary & Steve Wen Cardiovascular Division of UCI’s School of Medicine, is staffed by a multidisciplinary group of professionals dedicated to using the newest strategies in cardiovascular disease prevention — including research, teaching, community education and service — to fight heart disease.
The program operates in concert with the UCI Health Preventive Cardiology Program, which provides patient care.

We are an interdisciplinary group of medical professionals whose mission is to address the newest strategies in cardiovascular disease prevention through research, teaching, community education and service. We are dedicated to offering, through UC Irvine Healthcare’s Preventive Cardiology and Cholesterol Management Program, sound patient care to keep your heart healthy.

This fall, on November 1, 2025, the UCI School of Medicine Mary & Steve Wen Cardiovascular Division and the UCI Center for Global Cardiometabolic Health and Nutrition are hosting the Orange County Symposium for Cardiovascular Diseases Prevention. The symposium — which will bring together primary care providers, cardiologists, endocrinologists, lifestyle interventionists, and other specialists — is designed to fill knowledge gaps in the fast-evolving field of preventive cardiology.
